Building safe and supportive environments for student victims of and witnesses to violence

We assist schools and districts in developing and implementing programs and services to address the educational and psychosocial needs of students whose behaviors interfere with learning, particularly those suffering from the traumatic effects of violence.

Creating trauma-sensitive schools through capacity-building at the classroom and school levels
• Providing technical assistance in trauma and learning
• Collaborating with community-based mental health services
• Developing structures and protocols that support teachers, families, and students
• Nurturing the skills of students and teachers to manage conflict and avoid violence
• Arranging professional development and support for teachers, administrators and other school staff.



	I have had the pleasure of working with COMPASS Consulting in both of the districts where I have spent my career as an educator. They have been critical in the advancement of Service Teams and in the management of our grant-funded initiative to better understand trauma's impact on student achievement. The consultants have been consistently well received by the faculty and given us a great deal of support in our efforts to build a collaborative and culturally competent staff. We have made great strides in becoming a school that recognizes our obligation to meet the needs of all children and learned how to empower ourselves through working with agencies outside the school system.
